Materials Characterization Facility

Guidelines and procedures

NS&TD at the National Centre for Physics provides advanced characterization facilities to researchers from academia, industry and R&D organizations. To ensure efficient processing and high-quality results, please follow the guidelines below. The instrument proforma remains the authoritative sample instruction for each technique.

Submission workflow

01

Prepare

Use clean, contamination-free containers. Ensure samples are stable under ambient conditions.

02

Download

Obtain and fill out the specific characterization form for each requested instrument or technique.

03

Pack and label

Secure samples in labeled Eppendorf tubes placed inside ziplock bags, unless the technique form specifies another container.

04

Submit

Provide separate samples for each requested technique.

05

Pay

Review the approved fee structure and confirm payment.

06

Receive data

Results are shared in digital format once payment is confirmed.

Label every sample

  • Sample ID / name
  • Applicant name and organization
  • Relevant hazard information, if applicable

Each sample must be accompanied by its respective form. Forms must be complete, accurate, and readable.

Quantity and stability

Meet the quantity on the instrument form. Samples must be stable under ambient conditions unless prior arrangements are made. Always use the instrument form for precise preparation and quantity.

User responsibility

Users provide accurate experimental requirements and background. Incorrect or insufficient details may affect result quality. Specify measurement parameters if known, expected outcomes or objectives, and a contact for follow-up.

Safety

Clearly indicate if a sample is toxic, hazardous, radioactive, or biologically active. NS&TD may refuse unsafe samples.

Turnaround and retention

Processing time depends on instrument availability, sample type, and workload. After analysis, samples are retained for two weeks, then disposed of. NS&TD does not return-ship samples. Users arrange collection.

Payment and delivery

Services follow the approved fee structure. Data is released only after payment confirmation, in digital format only (email, WhatsApp).

Transport

Avoid moisture-sensitive exposure during transport and use clean, contamination-free containers.

QuestionsWhatsApp 0334 3337830 (Text Only)

Do not send one vial for several techniques. Separate samples are required for each characterization requested. Incomplete or illegible forms delay or reject the submission.

Ready to submit a sample?
