Gas Chromatography–Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS)

Combines gas-chromatography separation with mass-spectrometry identification. The GC separates volatile compounds; the MS identifies them by mass-to-charge ratio. Used to identify unknown components and quantify trace organics.

Gas chromatograph–mass spectrometer

What the measurement provides

  • Separation of volatile compounds
  • Identification by mass-to-charge ratio
  • Quantification of trace organic substances

Sample requirements

  • Minimum sample quantity: 1 mL.
  • Only organic liquid or gaseous samples with a maximum concentration of 50 ppm are acceptable.
  • The sample must be completely free of moisture and submitted in a proper sample container.
  • State start temperature, end temperature, hold temperature, hold time, and heating rate (°C/min).

Oven programme fields are printed on each sample row of the proforma.
