Thermal & Structural Analysis

Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA)

Measures changes in a material’s mass as a function of temperature or time under a controlled atmosphere. Used to assess thermal stability, decomposition behavior, moisture content, and compositional changes.

What the measurement provides

  • Thermal stability
  • Decomposition behavior
  • Moisture content
  • Compositional changes

Sample requirements

  • Samples must be non-explosive.
  • Minimum sample quantity: 0.1 g, in an Eppendorf tube placed in a ziplock bag.
  • Only solid, powder, or sheet-form samples are acceptable.
  • State temperature range (°C), environment (air / N₂ / Ar), and any other requirement.

The official proforma is titled TGA/DTA. The published rate table lists TGA. A separate DTA rate is not published.
