X-ray Diffraction (XRD)

Identifies crystalline structure, phase composition, and crystallite size. X-rays interacting with a crystalline lattice produce a diffraction pattern that acts as a fingerprint for the substance.

Powder X-ray diffractometer

What the measurement provides

  • Crystalline phase identification
  • Phase composition
  • Crystallite size
  • Identification of mineralogical or synthetic crystalline phases

Sample requirements

  • State the nature of the sample (for example hazardous, volatile, or explosive).
  • Minimum sample quantity: 0.2 g, in an Eppendorf tube placed in a ziplock bag.
  • Only powder samples are acceptable.
