Fourier-transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR)

Identifies chemical bonds and functional groups by measuring absorption of infrared radiation. Specific bonds vibrate at characteristic frequencies, giving a molecular signature used for functional-group identification and chemical purity.

What the measurement provides

  • Functional-group identification
  • Chemical bond information
  • Chemical purity assessment

Sample requirements

  • State the nature of the sample (for example hazardous, volatile, or explosive).
  • Minimum sample quantity: 0.1 g, in an Eppendorf tube placed in a ziplock bag.
  • Only solid, powder, or thin film samples are acceptable.

Sample code, chemical composition, and analysis parameters.
